Geography

At St Joseph’s, we want our children to see the world with curious eyes and thoughtful minds. That’s why we’ve chosen to follow the Kapow Primary Geography scheme of work. This approach helps pupils think like geographers—asking questions, exploring places, and understanding how the world works at different scales and over time.

From the very beginning, children are encouraged to observe their surroundings, collect and record information in different ways, and share what they’ve discovered. They learn how Geography influences our lives, both locally and globally, and begin to understand their role in shaping the future of their communities and the wider world.

Throughout their learning, children develop essential geographical skills such as map reading, fieldwork, and data analysis. They also build a strong understanding of key geographical terms and vocabulary. As they explore their local area and compare it with other parts of the world, they begin to see the connections between people, places, and environments.

Our aim is to nurture confident, thoughtful learners who are not only knowledgeable about the world but also inspired to make a positive difference within it. The Kapow scheme supports this by aligning with the National Curriculum and ensuring that children meet the expected outcomes by the end of each key stage.

Geography at St Joseph’s is more than just learning about places—it’s about developing a lifelong curiosity and a sense of responsibility for the world we live in.
